Composition at the time of the mobilization:
Division becomes the the 2nd Division Light of Cavalry , the 4th brigade cavalry becomes it cores of the 4 {{E}} Light Division of Cavalry.
May 10th 1940, it forms part with the 5 {{E}} Light Division of Cavalry of the 2nd army of the general Huntziger, it enters in Belgium while following the route Virton - Arlon, at eight hours and meets the first German troops later one hour. Nevertheless, dice the 12, in front of the German pressure, division returns to France, and the following day, it is placed in reserve of army within the grouping Roucaud, it is used then as side keeps with the action on Stonne. May 23rd, it withdrawn of the face, is placed at the disposal of the 7th army and leaves for Senlis. Its 12th motorized light brigade traverses 380 kilometers in 28 hours, and is thrown immediately in the engagements for the Somme. Following days, it appuye inter alia the 4 {{E}} Division Armoured of Reserve, then the 1st British Armored Division. The 3rd brigade of cavalry, it joined only on May 31st, and is then placed in reserve of the 9 {{E}} Army corps. Always on line on June 5th, 12th BLMo is severely attacked by the 5 {{E}} Panzerdivision, sudden of heavy losses. Finally, on June 12th, it finishes encircled with the 5th DLC, with Saint-Valéry-in-Caux, back with the sea. With court of ammunition and without means of evacuation, both division must capitulate to the 7th panzerdivision of Erwin Rommel. This last returns the honors to the French riders and leaves its saber to the Chamoine general who comnande the grouping, following the death of the general Berniquet, the day before, both division add up pus only 1500 combatants.
