mask mvudi

The Masque Mvudi is originating in the ethnic group Bapuna (Gabon).

Origin

Description

The mask above is tricolor and measurement 24 cm in height for 16 cm broad.

It is cut in wood tender and covered with a skin of monkey (or sometimes of feathers). Its beard is made of Raphia.

Use

Carried by the men, it represents a spirit and is used, in the court of the village, during the important diurnal ceremonies, in particular the mourning and the rejoicings in the dance " Mvudi ".
