Hanau is a town of Germany, in the area of the Hesse, on the Main. It counts 91.000 inhabitants. It is a commercial and industrial city (goldsmithery). It is famous because the brothers Grimm were born there.
History
The town of Hanau was composed of a strengthened old city, protected in north by the river the Kising, which even joined the Main in Hanau. In the south new city, it such a strengthened (Neustadt) was built in 1597, according to an orthogonal plan, to accommodate refugees of the Spanish Netherlands. A church (with half rebuilt nowadays) was built for their offices. March 19th, 1945 a British bombardment destroys this city. The rebuilding according to war kept the plan of origin. The buildings are hardly raised, three stages at the maximum. One guesses the old city by his irregular layout, the news by his layout in checkerwork. The town hall was restored with identical, a fountain gone back to 1606, flowering ash still the place of the market, the builders of the post-war period included in some residences of the old elements. Even the cemetery, close to the main station, was reorganized. For this Hanau reason is hardly reproduced on the tourist guides however in the west is located the castle of Philippsruhe at the edge of the Hand.The castle of Philippsruhe, (what means the rest of Philippe, as Karlsruhe is the rest of Karl) was built by the count Philipp Reinhardt von Hanau-Lichtenberg at the beginning of the XVII° century by the architect Julius Ludwig Rothweil helped of French engineer Jacques Girard.
Thereafter an orangery was below built the park protected from the winds by high walls. With the XIX° century a house of the rose at the end of the be dominating the Hand. The rooms of the castle make it possible to discover many more or less known artists born in Hanau or there having exerted their talents
In 1813, Napoleon gains there a military victory over theBavarian ones.
