Jebsheim is a common French, located in the department of the Haut-Rhin and the area Alsace. Its inhabitants are called Jebsheimois and Jebsheimoises.

Geography

History

The city was released in January 1945. It gave place to a true battle (see Poche of Colmar) opposing French of the 1st regiment of hunter parachutists (supported by elements of the Foreign legion and the 3rd American DI) to the German panzergrenadier ordered by the reichfurher S Himler in person. Jebsheim was one of the key positions for the release of Colmar. Under very hard climatic conditions, the city was taken and taken again many times. On the two sides, the losses were heavy. At the end of one week of fierce combats, the French parachutists occupied the city completely and made many prisoners. Jebsheim pays homage to its liberators daily.
