(15760) 1992 QB1 (also written (15760) 1992 QB1 ) is small a body discovered beyond the orbit of Neptune by David C. Jewitt and Jane X. Luu of the Institute for Astronomy (IFA) of Hawaii in 1992. It will be the first known member of the Ceinture of Kuiper.

In the beginning the discoverers wanted to name their discovery Smiley , according to a novel of John the Square. This name being already given to the asteroid (1613) Smiley, the official catalog could not use it and it is only indicated today by its reference (15760) 1992 QB1. This one was derived (in English) in “QB1-o' S” (Cubewano S) to indicate any object of the Ceinture of Kuiper orbiting beyond 41 ua and not subjected to the resonance of external planets.

With its orbit slightly eccentric, (15760) 1992 QB1 is indeed the prototype of the objects traditional KBO. Its trajectory is typical of these objects which were formed during a slow agglomeration in a calm matter disc.

Its surface is rather red, indicating the presence of carbonaceous compounds.
