Zutkerque

Zutkerque is a common French, located in the department of the Pas-de-Calais and the area Nord-Pas-de-Calais.

Geography

History

Village located at 5 km in the south/south-western of Audruicq. It there had formerly in Zutkerque, says one, a house of Templiers. This village formerly had a castle strong, existing time of Jules César, it had the name of Headland. In 1396, Philippe the Bold one, duke of Burgundy placed with the castle. Mentioned for the first time in 1084, its name comes from Flemish, it means Église of the South.

September 20th, 1589 Approval in the Market Echevinale d' Audruicq of the habit of Châtellenie d' Audruicq and the country of Brédenarde conceived in 78 articles.

1595 Rupture of peace between French and Spaniards. The French take the castle of Audruicq and devastate the country. Eustace de Croy receives in reward the bailliage of Audruicq and the country of Brédenarde. The French plunder the church of Zutkerque

August 7th, 1635 The count de Fréchin coming from Saint-Omer besieges and takes the church

From 1690 with the Revolution The territory is managed by a large baillif of the family of Lauretan (by a hereditary load)

1707 Foundation of the castle of Draeck

1790 The communes of the country of the Angle enter the canton of Saint-Folquin

1801 The communes of the canton of Saint-Folquin enter the canton of Audruicq
