Zsh

Z Shell or zsh is a Shell Unix which can be used in an interactive way, with the opening of the session or as a powerful interpreter of order. Zsh can be seen like a “Bourne Shell” wide with much of improvements. It begins again in more the majority of the most practical functions of Bash, Ksh and Tcsh.

In particular, Zsh brings the following functionalities:

  • Completion of the orders, the options and the arguments of the majority of the orders. In particular, to type the continuation of characters “Cd ” will allow completion only by repertories.

  • research in the sub-directory thanks to the selector ** (it is the only one to do it)
  • Partage of the history of the orders between all the currently active shells zsh.
  • improved Use of the variables and the tables.
  • Edition of the orders multi lines in only one buffer.
  • “orthographical” Correction of the typed orders.
  • Several modes of compatibility (zsh can for example be seen as Shell bourne when it is carried out as /bin/sh).
  • Invite of order personnalisable, with the possibility of posting information on the right-sided of the screen which disappears if the typed order is too long.

Zsh supports Unicode recently and proves lighter than bash.
