Carthage
- Rising of the mercenaries to Carthage under the control of the Libyan Mathó, Campanien Spendios and the Gallic Autarite, which did not receive the supplements of pays promised during the war. With the head of an army of 70 000 men, they occupy the area of Carthage and Tunis, then besiege Utique and Bizerte. The Carthaginians call upon Hamilcar Barca which draws aside temporarily the threat on Carthage with the assistance of the cavalry of the prince numide Naravas. Then an attempt at negotiation fails and the Carthaginian ambassadors are tortured and massacred by the mercenaries.
World hellenistic
- With Sparte, Léonidas {{II}} makes strangle Agis {{IV}} in its cell.
- With died of Alexandre II of Épire, the Olympias regent seeks alliance Macedonian, but its two sons Pyrrhus and Ptolémée die back-to-back. Monarchy is reversed in Epire in -231 with the profit of a republic directed by a college of three strategists elected by the assembly of Epirotes.

- May 25th: First proven observation of the Halley's Comet by Chinese astronomers.
- Towards -240, the Greek mathematician Ératosthène of Cyrène is named new librarian of Alexandria: its greater work was the calculation of the Circonférence of the Ground (250000 stages is 40000 km) and the Crible of Ératosthène.

He would be the author of more than eight hundred works (Tables, catalogs of 120 pounds, base of the history of the Greek literature, Hymnes, Épigrammes , the Chevelure of Bérénice , Causes , Origines , Hécalé , Iambes , lyric Poèmes , Ibis ).
