Zoo of Schönbrunn
The zoo of Schönbrunn (in German Tiergarten Schönbrunn , in English Schönbrunn Zoo ) is a zoo located on the grounds of famous the Château of Schönbrunn to Vienna in Austria. It was founded in 1752 and remained in activity since, which makes of it oldest zoo world.
History of the zoo
It is on July 31st, 1752 that the emperor Franz Stephan von Lothringen opens his menagerie of Schönbrunn, then only reserved for some privileged visitors. It becomes public in 1779, and the population Viennese can then visit it free.It passes under the control of the République of Austria at the end of the monarchy.
In 1926, the menagerie term abandoned and is replaced by Tiergarten Schönbrunn which means zoological garden of Schönbrunn .
