Zoo of Berlin

The Zoo of Berlin ( Zoologischer Garten Berlin ) is one of largest the zoological gardens of Germany and one of the zoos in the world comprising the most animals.

It was founded in 1844. The first gifts of animals were made by Frederic-Guillaume IV, the King of Prussia.

During the Second world war the zoo was completely destroyed and only 91 animals survived. After the war it was completely rebuilt.

Today he is regarded as the zoo with the greatest quantity of various species: more than 1500 species and 14.000 animals.

One of the most famous rare species of the zoo is the giant Panda, which is a threatened Espèce. Only some zoos in the world have some.

Knut

In March 2007, the zoo decides to save a bear cub given up by his/her mother and names it Knut. Médiatisé, it became an attraction and a registered trademark.
