Zones of EverQuest
EverQuest , a MMORPG, is held in the world imaginary of Norrath , made continents and oceans, divided into more than 200 zones . The zones are playable portions of the universe of EverQuest which the players can reach. They are connected between them by edges , and to cross a edge to go in another zone is called “zoner”.
Zoner can take few seconds at more than one minute, according to the power of the computer of the player. Sometimes it even arrives that the computer " plante" at the time of this passage. Zoner makes it possible to pass from a zone to another, that can prove to be a very effective technique to escape an enemy who continues you, because while zonant, that Ci does not follow you and remains in its zone.
The zones are from their nature the basic units of playable space stored on the hard drive. A place such as a city can comprise 3 or 4 zones (ex: Qeynos, Nériak…), just as easily that a great zone can contain a whole city and a vast forest (ex: Haut-Faydark).
With the exit of many extensions for EverQuest with the passing of years, there are notable differences between the oldest zones and the recent zones which profit from better graphics and functionalities more advanced like interactive objects or “scriptés” events implying PNJ (characters not-players). Thus, the extension LDoN (Lost Dungeon off Norrath) introduced the concept of instanciée zone . It is about a zone which can exist simultaneously in several specimens, each one being able to accommodate a group or a distinct raid.
It is rather difficult to classify the zones because of the nature even of EverQuest. The play is constantly updated by patchs and extensions. Some of these extensions added zones to certain continents, even created new continents and even alternative plans of existence. Some rare zones also disappeared. Because of the difficulty in sorting the zones by criterion of geography or extension, the zones will be listed below according to a certain compromise.
The zones surrounding the majority of the towns of departure have a common organization, with a zone for beginners (level 1 to 5), a zone for confirmed beginners (5 to 15) and a dongeon for beginner (level 5 to 20).
NB: the single French-speaking waiter (named Sébilis) was closed in July 2005 by Ubisoft. Nevertheless, the names of the zones such as they were reproduced in French on Sébilis are indicated below, in complement of the English names.
Norrath
Norrath is the name of the imaginary planet on which seat EverQuest takes. This planet is made up of oceans and continents: Antonica, Faydwer, Kunark, Odus, Taelosia, and Vélious. This planet also has the many moons, of which that of Luclin. The various plans of existence do not make parties of Norrath itself.
The old world
The old world comprises 3 continents: Antonica, Faydwer and Odus. The majority of the zones appeared already in the first version of EverQuest left in Mars 1999.

Part of the city is a kind of bazaar which was used formerly as place of trade for the players (however, since the arrival of the Luclin extension, all the trade is done in the Bazaar close to Nexus). The guards of Port-Franc East and West constitute a rather malefic militia. Their sworn enemies, the Knights of the Truth, are the guards of Northern Port-Franc. There exists a system of underground tunnels making it possible to move under the city for those which are in bad terms with the guards. The day, the zone is accessible, even if some wasps or orcs can be caught some to the weakest adventurers. But when the Plan of Hatred (den of Innoruuk) appeared, thealive ones settled in the forest and they still wander the come night there. They are the ruins of the old town of Guk, and they consist of a broad network of underground tunnels. At the time of the exit of the play (before any extension), it was one of the two most difficult zones (with the Cave of Nagafen). It was never advisable to venture there all alone, and only groups of level 40+ could progress there. The death-alive greloks have a social structure because they have a King, a Priest and Wise.

The inhabitants of this temple offer many searches, and each one can penetrate there since the Mountains of the Volcanic Clouds. It is generally not a zone of combat, but certain players can be caused to fight there to acquire certain powerful objects. The most important searches available here are the searches of armor. They were installation in order to replace the armor of Rubicite which was removed play when this temple appeared. Nowadays, with the new extensions, these armours are much less powerful.

The island is used as refuge with the race of Kerrans, driven out formerly by the Scholars. The Queen of Kerrans and her Court are firmly kept, but the city can accommodate the peaceful travellers. The majority of the players did not never visit this island and are unaware of until the existence of Kerrans.
