Zone vadose

The or zone unsaturated (ZNS) with the ground corresponds to the part of the ground and/or the basement located between the interface atmosphere-pédosphère and the Ground water. In this zone, the pores of the ground are partially filled of water (except for the capillary Frange) and with gas (generally of the air), contrary to the zone saturated with water in which the totality of the porous system is filled with water and contains the Aquifère S. The size of this zone very strongly depends on the climatic characteristics, the type of ground and the hydrogeology of the place. It can be a few meters at most as in the polders, with the Netherlands (strong rainfall, high ground water) or excessively deep as under the the Sahara (important evaporation and deep ground water).
