Zoltán Lajos Bay is a Physicien Hungarian (born the July 24th 1900, deceased 4 occtobre 1992) which worked amongst other things on the Radar S.

Chronology

It was born with Gyulavári (Hungary) and graduated Academy of Science Pázmány Peter of Debrecen, where it obtained his Doctorat.
  • After 4 years of studies in Berlin, it worked as professor of theoretical physics to the Université of Szeged.

  • In 1936, at the laboratory of the company Tungsram, it developed the first Hungarian radar and obtained, with its team, several patents in the fields of the vacuum tubes, Fluorescent S and discharge of high voltages in gas-tubes.

  • Of 1938 with 1948, he was professor at the technical University of Budapest where he continued his work on the radar. The February 6th 1946, its team was the first to collect the return of a beam radar since the the Moon by using a method of integration of the signal to separate the useful signal from the background noise. This only occurred one month after an American team succeeded in producing a return of the same place.

  • Starting from 1948, it emigrates with the the United States of America and works with the George Washington University then becomes of 1955 with 1972 the chief of the department of Nuclear physics of U.S. Office off Standard (office of the measuring rods). It receives many prices and medals for its work in physics of gases, especially for the multiplier of electrons.
  • It is made member of the Ordre of the Hungarian Republic to its 90ème birthday.
