Zlin (aeronautical manufacturer)

Zlin (Zlinská Letecká Akciová Společnost) was a Czechoslovakian company famous for its planes of competition and highly reliable stunt-flyings and with the particularly high performances.

The beginnings go back to 1933, when the enthusiastic ones of aviation and pilots started to draw and manufacture sailplanes under the direction of Jan Kryspin in workshops of the town of Zlín. In 1934, the manufacturer of Chaussures Bata also established in Zlín created the aeronautical manufacturer Bata A.S. Zlin .

Frantisek Majer, which joined the team this same year created the first true sailplane of the company baptized Z-X. July 8th, 1935, the company name of the company was modified in Zlinská Letecká Akciová Společnost and Bata further built 10 km with Otrokovice a new larger factory in which the aeronautical manufacturer moved which preserved the name “Zlin”.

They is there that were built until 1939 the first planes with engine like Z-XII or Z-XIII, five models on the whole. During the German occupation, the factory did not develop planes but manufactured training aircrafts Klemm Kl 35 and Bücker Bü 181 Bestmann , renamed after the war in Zlin Z-181.

After the Second world war, the Zlin factories were renamed Moravan. During following years, famous models were created there like the series of the “Trener” (To trail) Z-26 and Z-126 like their successors Z-326, Z-526 and Z-726. Other apparatuses were built like the training aircraft and of tourism Z-42 and the plane of aerobatics Z-50LS.
