The zip code is a court unit of figures and/or letters, used by the undertaken postal in order to simplify and to accelerate the routing of the Courrier.

Its form varies according to the country but it generally represents one or more or less vast geographical areas.

Certain special codes in addition are sometimes reserved at institutions or Entreprise S which receive important volumes of mail (for example the system of the Cedex in France).

In the countries whose treatment of the mail is mechanized, the zip code is converted into code-bars and is printed on the envelope.
