Zilog

Zilog is a company of electronics founded in California in 1974 by a former employee of Intel, Federico Faggin. Now less widespread than the Intel or Motorola, the microprocessors Zilog were very popular at the beginning of the Années 1980. The most known processor resulting from Zilog is the family of the Z80. This microprocessor was compatible with the Intel 4004, which had also been conceived by Federico Faggin. It is in particular present in the Amstrad CPC and the Game Boy of Nintendo. More recently it was integrated in the computers TI-83 and TI-86. The company, become subsidiary of Exxon Corporation in 1980, was repurchased by its employees in 1989, before being bought by the company of investment Texas Pacific Group in 1998. It was reorganized at the end of 2001, following a placement in file for bankruptcy.
