Ziel is a German word indicating:

• a concept of border, of limit of space
• a thing towards which one tightens

With the illustrated direction: the idea of an object towards which one directs his wishes (appropriation), which one seeks to reach.

Used by Carl von Clausewitz in his treaty Of the war the Ziel is the ultimate goal of the military countryside. It can and must thus be transformed into means with the service of the fine policy (Zweck), only irreducible goal in means.
