Zhou Xuan
Zhou Xuan ( 周璇 , Lagging-Gilles: Zhou Hsuan) (August 1st, 1918 - September 22nd, 1957, Shanghai) was a singer and mythical Chinese actress.
Zhou was born in Su Pu, and was separated from his/her natural parents being young; she was raised by her adoptive parents. She sought her biological parents all her life, but those were found only after its death. At 13 years, it chooses the name of scene " Xuan" , meaning " pretty jade" in Chinese.
It began its career of actress in 1935, and became true a star with the film " Angels of the boulevard " (马路天使, malu tianshi), by the realizer Yuan Muzhi, today traditional of the Chinese cinema.
She was called " The voice of or" , and was a star of the song in the Thirties and Forties. It was an emblematic figure of the Chinese star system with the arrival of the gramophone: she often sang the titles of the original soundtracks of her own films.
She spent several years in psychiatric institutes: its life was marked by a succession of missed marriages, children illegitimate and suicide attempts.
She died of a céphalite following a nervous breakdown, at 39 years, after having played in 43 films. In more known, the Angels of the boulevard , two songs mythical appear: the four seasons (四季歌, sili Ge) and the wandering singer (天涯歌女, tianwa genü).
She seemed character in many films and televised series in Mandarin and Cantonese.
