Zhangye

Zhangye (张掖; Pinyin: Zhāngyì) is a city of the province Gansu in China.

Geography

The town of Zhangye is located at the center of the corridor of Hexi , which was formerly the only way connecting the center of the Empire to its territories of the west.

Demography

The population of the prefecture was estimated at: 1280000 inhabitants in 2004, and that of the town of Zhangye with: 97383 inhabitants in 2007.

Administrative divisions

The city-prefecture of Zhangye exerts its jurisdiction on six subdivisions - a district, four counties and a autonomous county :

the district of Ganzhou - 甘州区 Gānzhōu Qū ;
the county of Minle - 民乐县 Mínlè Xiàn ;
the county of Linze - 临泽县 Línzé Xiàn ;
the county of Gaotai - 高台县 Gāotái Xiàn ;
the county of Shandan - 山丹县 Shāndān Xiàn ;
the autonomous county yugur of Sunan - 肃南裕固族自治县 Sùnán yùgùzú Zìzhìxiàn .
