Zhang Renjie (in Chinese 張人傑) or Zhang Jingjiang (張靜江), called in Occident “Curio Zhang” is a politician and business man Chinese (1877 - 1950).
Biography
It is resulting from a rich person family of the
Zhejiang. It makes its studies in
France, where it is influenced by the socialist ideas. In
1902, it is attached of the Chinese minister to
Paris, Sun Baoqi. The same year, it founds in Paris Tonying Company, a company of import-export of works of art (it with this intention accepted three hundred and thousand Chinese dollars of his father, Zhang Dingfu). In
1906, it meets
Sun Yat-SEN and entrusts sixty thousand Chinese dollars to him, mainly resulting from the benefit of Tonying Company, with the profit of the revolutionary cause. As from this moment, he became a partisan of the
Guomindang. Starting from
1907, it financially helps there a revolutionary review and a survey firm directed by Chinese students. Of return in China, it creates in
1912 an association making it possible young Chinese to study with the college of
Montargis, in
France, after having learned the
French in a school from
Beijing. It helps also
Tchang Kaï-chek, which will regard it as its “true Master”, to gain the confidence of Sun Yat-SEN in the Années 1910. With died of Sun Yat-SEN (
1925), he was recognized like one of the “four former statesmen of Guomindang”. He supported then Tchang Kaï-chek and organized his rise with the capacity in
1926. After the victory of the
Guomindang in
1928, it continued to support the capacity of Tchang Kaï-chek. He then became the president of the commission on the national rebuilding, created in 1928 per Guomindang, and governor of Zhejiang (until in
1930). He was then reached of paralysis. He calls itself then, by derision, the Cicada lying. When the Sino-Japanese war burst, he flees China in
1938. He settled initially in
Europe, then with
New York following the release of the
Second world war. He died in New York the
September 3rd 1950.
