Zermatt

Zermatt (in French Praborgne) is a common Suisse of the Canton of Were worth, located in the District of Viège.

Geography

Zermatt is located at the bottom of the valley of the Mattertal, with the foot of the Cervin at an altitude of 1620 m, in the Germanic part of the canton of Were worth. It is one of the most important ski stations of the Alps with a skiable field culminating to 3900 m, as well as an important center of alpinism and climbing.

The area of Zermatt shelters a great number of glaciers in the small valleys and on the high summits of the neighborhoods such as the Glacier of Gorner or the Glacier of Zmutt

No motor vehicle traffic

The small town knew to keep its typical aspect of Valaisan village of mountain. It is in particular prohibited with the cars. Only the electric cars are authorized, as with Saas Fee. It is connected by a railway line to Viège. This line is also the point departure of the tourist train Glacier Express train which crosses Switzerland in 7:30 until in the Canton of the Grisons to the stations of Davos and Saint Moritz.
