Zenzile

Zenzile is a group of Dub formed in 1995 with Angers.

Presentation

Le word Zenzile is the name of a South-African poet engaged against the Apartheid, which is a means for the group of expressing its ideas while mitigating one of the difficulties major of the dub, namely the absence of words. However, the invited singers Jamika and Jean Gomis intervene on all the discs since 1999 (Jamika which can even be regarded as the sixth member of the group).

The practical quintet a slightly electronic dub and enough purified (without too many effects), qualified " of aérien".

In summer 2004, the group plays festival Sakifo with the Réunion. Two titles of the album “ Working arrangement ” are inspired by the island Mafate and the green Ray . In November 2005, Zenzile turns jointly with High Tone, another headlight group of the French scene dub with the album “ Zentone ”, published in 2006.

The group also evolves/moves in configuration Sound system and proposes of the mix news on its official site. “ Metà Metà ”, the first album under the name of Zenzile Sound System left in May 2006. In this disc, Zenzile appears under its electro side, in the spirit of Maurizio, Cinematic Orchestra, Amon Tobin or of the productions of the label Ninja Tune. In October 2006, Zenzile Sound System is in round, including six dates with Zong, group electro réunionnais.

2007 mark a certain revival for the group, which signs with “ Living in Monochromic ” an album at the border of the Post-rock'n'roll, delivering a heavier environment with more complex partitions of guitar, related to the fronts. Inter alia, Tricky makes party of the multiple guests of this new opus.

  • Matthieu Bablee alias Mathieu (or Matthieu or Matt): low Guitar, samples.
  • Christophe Wauthier alias Werner: battery, samples.
  • Vincent Erdeven alias Vince: keyboard, Guitar, low.
  • Erik Sevret alias Raggy: Saxophone, Flute, Mélodica, percussions, samples. Raggy is also member of the trio Sweet Back (album Amok appeared on the label Shoshin Sounds).
  • Jaja (or Ajaj): Guitar. Leave the group after Sachem in Salem and ensures the production of Working arrangement . In 2006, under the name of Afous Afous, Jaja produces the album Moment by moment , fruit of its meeting with Tinariwen.
  • Scott: Guitar. Leave the group after Zenzile and Jamika Meet Cello .
  • Alexandre Raux alias Alex: Guitar, low, samples. Joined the group on Working arrangement .
  • Yann and Tanguy: sound engineers

Homonymy

In 1976, a group of American jazz named Zenzile (album with the saxophonist Marion Brown appeared in 1977 on the Baystate label).

Zenzile is also the true first name of the South-African singer Miriam Makeba.
