The zenaga ( znaga ) is a language Berbère spoken by approximately 200 to 300 people (1998) at south-west about the Mauritania between Mederdra and the Atlantic coast.
As already the writings of Rene Basset and Louis Faidherbe attested it, the zenaga is also spoken with the Senegal. The word zenaga is besides one of the etymologies under consideration for the name of the river Senegal, and thus of the country. The number of speakers would be approximately 1.900 there according to a Québécois source.
