History

Zeeland, located in the north of the Peel, large a wooded Moor with Peaty S, was born during the demographic expansion from the 13th century. The village is surrounded by multiple hamlets: Brand , Graspeel , Kreitsberg , Nabbegat , Oventje , Puttelaar , the Trent , Voederheil in Zevenhuis . Each hamlet develops starting from a farm insulated or Sale , which is used as core of clearing of the moor. Thus, the name of Zeeland comes from Zelland , Seleland , Saleland .

The farmers of antan are poor small holders, who work some fields, hold some cows in small meadows and make keep sheep on the wet moors of Peel at the dubious borders, which cause multiple fights between the neighbouring villages.

Zeeland, located in the Seigniory of Uden, made party of the Country of Herpen (after 1360 Countries of Ravenstein). The village falls under the jurisdiction from Uden, which later becomes Heikantgericht , jurisdiction of Heikant (= of with dimensions of the Moor; by opposition of Maaskant = of with dimensions of the Meuse).

Zeeland is then controlled by a Corpus of 8 members: two alderman S of the Heikantgericht , two owners, two main of the poor and two main of the church . After the invasion of the French in 1794, Ravenstein and Zeeland lose their independence and in 1805 Zeeland becomes common department, later province, Brabant-Septentrional and divides since the history of the Netherlands. January 1st, 1994, the commune of Zeeland forms with the commune of Schaijk the new commune of Landerd.

The parish

A first vault, dedicated to saint Jacques the Minor and to saint Cornélius or Crow, is built in 1376. Towards 1542, it is replaced by a rectorial church. June 14th 1628, Zeeland, which depended on the parish of Uden, becomes independent parish. In 1871 - 1872, the church of 16th is replaced by the current church. Saint Jacques Major the becomes principal patron saint, better known than Jacques the Minor. In the church, one sets up a vault for second patron saint, holy Cornélius.

Cornélius saint

The knight Arnoldus Heim, founder of the first vault, introduced in 1376 devotion with saint Cornélius. The pilgrimage with Cornélius saint, of modest pace during 15th and 16th centuries, becomes extensive towards 1771. The brotherhood of Cornélius saint, founded towards 1520, changes later into Schuttersgilde (Body of the Archers), which always exists. In 1917 a new brotherhood of Cornélius saint is founded, who quickly becomes most important of the area and the visiting pilgrims are registered there. She carries in first half of the 20th century the pilgrimage has her apogee. There remains only little pilgrimage, but the weekend close of September 16th, celebrates of the saint, Zeeland has his annual village fair.
