Zeebruges (in Dutch: Zeebrugge ) is a locality of the Littoral of Belgium (administratively forming part of the town of Bruges), located in the Flanders-Western province of and the Flemish Région.

Zeebruges forever be a commune. In order to create Zeebruges, to give a new port to the town of Bruges, the grounds necessary were annexed to the town of Bruges in 1901. The port became reality in 1907.

The port

Marked by both World wars, of which it preserves a deposit immersed of ammunition, it is the maritime access of Bruges towards the Manche to the south and the the North Sea. It is the home base of an important sea traffic, in particular by ferry, in direction of the England. It has a maritime gas terminal (reception of Méthanier S).

Pronunciation

Confusions are very frequent concerning the pronunciation and the orthography. If " Zeebruges" (sometimes also spelled " Zébruges"), French name, decides well like the name of the town of Bruges, on the other hand, " Zeebrugge" , Dutch name, decides like " Brugge" , (Dutch name of this same town of Bruges): the last syllable decides " roughly; ghe" and not like " je" (the pronoun of the first nobody in French).
