Zea mays subsp. parviglumis
''Zea mays'' subsp. '' parviglumis '' is a subspecies of the kind Zea . It is a teosinte, plants herbaceous annual, near to the Maïs, endemic of the Mexico.
This plant pushes on the plate of the center of Mexico in the area of Rio Balsas, between 500 and 1900 meters of altitude. It is very widespread, but hybrid seldom with corn.
According to John Doebley, American geneticist, this subspecies is nearest genetically to corn and would be the ancestor of cultivated corn.
