Biography

Zbigniew Brzezinski, whose father was Diplomate of the Republic of Poland, made its studies with Montreal then with Boston. The father of Zbigniew was in diplomatic station in Canada in 1939 at the time of the Pacte Molotov-Ribbentrop, thus preventing the family from returning to Poland.

Zbigniew Brzezinski supports its thesis of Doctorat in 1953 on the question of the “Soviet Totalitarisme”. He becomes expert with the international Center for strategic and studies of Washington and professor with the Université Johns Hopkins of Baltimore. He is the author of several studies and analyzes on the upheaval and the role of the United States in the world. He becomes political adviser with the State Department of 1966 to 1968. He is the founder in 1973 of the Trilateral Commission and also directs the committee for peace in Chetchnia. His wife, Emilie-Anne Beneš, are the niece of the former Czechoslovakian president Edvard Beneš, which will increase Soviet suspicion in its connection, in particular at the time the election of the pope Jean-Paul II and the Polish crisis of the summer 1980 which will see the birth of the trade union Solidarité.

Work

Zbigniew Brzeziński in particular wrote the Large Chess-board (Hatchet, 1997). This book not being more really of topicality following the events of the September 11th, 2001, it published of it a version brought up to date under the title the True Choice in 2004 ( The Choice: total domination but total leadership , appeared at BASIC Books). In the version of 1997, he affirmed that new a Pearl Harbor would be necessary to make accept with the population the military projects and American imperialists.

Its theory exposed in this work is based on the idea that the improvement of the world and its stability depend on the maintenance of the American hegemony. Any concurrent power is consequently regarded as a threat for world stability. Its single goal is to maintain and develop the hegemony of the United States of America in the world. Its speech is frank and direct, which does not exclude a certain cynicism.

But contrary to the unilateralism of the president George W. Bush, he is rather European pro , insofar as according to him the American Leadership, which only could save the world of chaos, can be fully carried out and achieve its goals only while cooperating with Europe.

According to its own words: “Without Europe, America is still dominating but not omnipotent, whereas without America, Europe is rich but impotent. ” He sees in alliance USA-Europe an axis which would make it possible each part to become more powerful while having a stronger impact on peace and the development in the world.
