Zakopane

Zakopane (to pronounce: [zako' panε] ) is a town of Poland in the Voïvodie of Small-Poland from which it is the 10th more big city, considered as capital of the winter sports of this country as well as an important tourist center. Located on the Zakopianka, just below the most important mountainous chain of Poland, the Tatras.

Zakopane is partly located in the national park of Tatras. The city attracts nearly 3 million tourists per annum, which places it in 3rd position in the country after Warsaw and Cracow. Zakopane was candidate to organize the Olympic Games of 2006. She organized the University Plays twice.

Zakopane is also a town of cure which shelters several sanatoria. The city has 6 museums on the whole.

Sport

The city wanted to be candidate with the Winter Olympics of 2006, it is Turin which carried it.
