Zaharii Zograf

Zaharii Hristovitch Zograf (in Bulgarian: ЗахарийХристовичЗограф) is a painter and Bulgarian draftsman of icons of the middle of the century.

Biography

Zaharii Zograf (born with Samokov (Bulgaria) in 1810 - died in Samokov on June 14th, 1853) is the son of Hristo Dimitrov. It makes studies in his brother Dimitar Zograf with whom it will work later on.

It is one of the Bulgarian painters most creative and most productive. Zaharii Zograf is one of the rare painters of this time to have introduced rustic elements into its murals. In 1851-1852, he lives and works with the Mont Athos; he is the author of the icons of the monastery of Saint-Georges Zograf to which he owes his nickname of " Zograf".

Its most known works are the icons and murals appearing in the church " Sv Konstantin and Elena" with Plovdiv, the church " Bogoroditsa" saint; with Koprivchtitsa, the church of the Monastery of Rila, the monastery of Batchkovo and the monastery of Préobrajenski" with Veliko Tarnovo.

In its last years, it carries out some portraits. With its deaths, it leaves a great number of drafts.
