Zafra

Zafra is a town of Spain, in the Province of Badajoz, in Extrémadure.

It constitutes the principal industrial pole of the Comarque of Zafra-Río Bodión, and the capital of the south of Extrémadure. Its development is supported by its strategic position in the center of a node of communication which connects it to Badajoz, Seville, Huelva and Cordoue.

The city was founded by the Celtibères, then increased by César, which gave him its name: Restituta Julia . It was taken with the Moors by the king Ferdinand III of Castille in 1240. One sees there the palate of the dukes of Médina-Celi.
