Zadoc Kahn (February 18th 1839, Mommenheim (the Low-Rhine) - December 8th 1905, Paris), was Grand Rabbin of France of 1889 with its death in 1905.

Biography

Admitted with the seminar of Metz in 1856, preparatory principal to the seminar since 1859, it is named in 1867 assistant of the chief rabbi of Paris, Lazare Isidor, then succeeds to him in 1868 when this one is named chief rabbi of France. He is very affected by the Guerre of 1870 and the loss of sound native Alsace. In 1879, it founds the Société of the Jewish studies , crucible of the " franco-judaïsme". In 1889, with died of Isidor, it is named chief rabbi of France. Fighting inlassablement against the Anti-semitism, favorable to the colonization of the Palestine organized by Edmond de Rothschild, he played a big role during the Affaire Dreyfus.
