Zachlumy

Zachlumie /ou Zahumlje /ou Zachoulmie , also known like the Earth of Hum and Chelm , was a Slavic principality of the south medieval located in Herzégovine (belonging to current the Bosnia-Herzégovine), and in Dalmatie of the south (belonging to the current republic of Croatia). There is a dispute among the Serb historians and the Croatian historians, on if the inhabitants of Zachlumie were Serbes or Croatian by origin.

Oldest written mentions

Zachlumie then bordered the grounds of Paganie ( Paganoi ) in the west and south-west, the Travonie ( Terbounia ) in the east and south-east and the Serbia in north.

The chronic of the priest of Duklja mention Zachlumie like part of the Croatia Rouge and reports a source of 753, De Regno Sclavorum .

The book De Administrando Imperio of the Xe century, written by the Byzantine Emperor Constantin VII Porphyrogénète, mentions the ground of the Zachlumoi or Zahumlje as one of the grounds given to the Serbes which were dissatisfied Servie in the Byzantine project of Serbia ( thema Servia ) to live first half of the VIIe century.

Sovereigns of Zachlumie

Zahumlje entered in confederation with the princes Serbes of Rascie very early. The Serb prince Časlav Klonimirović of the Maison of the Vlastimirović completely incorporated this surface in his field between 927 and 940.

With the XIIe and the XIIIe century, Zachlumie was controlled by a dynasty of local sovereigns:

  • Desa, the župan of Duklja, Travonie and Zachlumie before 1151 and the župan of Serbia of 1155 - 1162
  • Zavida, the Prince de Zachlumie
  • Miroslav, Large Prince de Zachlumie of 1162 - 1190. He was the brother of Stefan Nemanja, of Tihomir and Stracimir. It Maria a sister of the Round of applause Kulin of Bosnia. In 1166, it reigned in the name of Tihomir and since 1166 in the name of the Duke of all the Serbia, and in the name of the Large Prince of Rascie Stefan Nemanja.

The attested sovereigns of Zachlumie to the XIVe century include:

  • Stephen Konstantin, Prince de Zachlumie, claiming with the Serb throne in 1323.
  • Jovan Uglješa, a descendant of the Serb House of the Mrnjavčević , controlled Zachlumie of approximately 1370 until its death in 1404.
  • Sandalj Hranić Kosača, knez of Zachlumie and one of the Dukes of Saint Sava, went up to become Grand Voïvode of Bosnia until its death in 1435
  • Stjepan Vukčić Kosača, Grand Voïvode of Bosnia, Knez de Zachlumie and Primorje until its death in 1466
