Zachary Taylor , (November 24th 1784 - July 9th 1850), is it twelfth President of the United States of America. He is elected for a four years mandate starting from 1849 but dies into 1850 before finishing it. It is the second president to die in the course of mandate.
Zachary Taylor is a typical military career, born in Virginia, educated in Kentucky, he has a house in Louisiana and a plantation in the Mississippi, it is interested in the policy at the point never not to have voted. Its ideas are those of the slave Southerners but it is before any nationalist and against any secession of the Union.
Z. Taylor is born the November 24th 1784 in a family from rich person growers of Virginia. It is not particularly interested by the studies and turns to a military career. It takes part in several campaigns against the Indians while estimating that those must be protected from greed from the colonists.
In 1846, at the time of the américano-Mexican War, it orders an army on the Río Grande and is victorious Mexicans in spite of their numerical superiority of 3 against 1 - to note however that the army of the United States is equipped with a much higher artillery - it becomes a national hero then.

He becomes the candidate of the Parti whig with the presidential election 1848 although he did not even vote until there. Its military antecedents like the northerners and the Southerners appreciate it as an owner of slaves. He is elected the November 7th with a small majority in triangular between the democratic candidate and that of a new party opposed to the extension of the slave system.
March 5th: nomination of Zachary Taylor as a twelfth chair of the United States. The ceremony was to be normally held the 4 but he refuses to lend oath one Sunday.
July 4th: Zachary Taylor attends the ceremonies of the day of Independence and remains with the sun, without hat, during several hours. While returning to the White House it is refreshed by eating fruits and cold milk. He suffers then from stomach cramps and one thinks today that it is the treatment inflicted by its doctors who because his death on July 9th. It served only 16 month of its mandate. The vice-president Millard Fillmore succeeds to him.
The only notable fact during the short presidency of Zachary Taylor is the signature of a treaty with the United Kingdom for the opening of a channel in Central America opened with the ships of the two countries.
Its policy resembles its military campaigns, it does not take account of the various opinions and tries to make pass its decisions in force. In particular he proposes with the New Mexico and the California to ask their integration in the Union as States without passing by the transition from Territories. This method enabled them to register their statute of not-slave State directly in their constitution and shorted-circuit the debates within the Congrès.
The admission of new not-slave States modifies preceding balance (15 States for, 15 States against) what reinforces the wills of dissidence in the South. In February 1850 Z. Taylor threatens even the leaders of these States which plan their secession to personally take the head of the army to make them hang.
Zachary Taylor is Southerner, slave, but before any nationalist. Its policy with respect to the black minority is intended to preserve the Union. The compromise very not easily found allowing to integrate two new not-slave States included reinforcement of the laws against the slaves in escape, which results in to make recognize at the federal government the existence of slavery. This compromise however will not be signed by Z. Taylor because of its premature death.
The elections of 1848 are the first of the American history where the voters of all the States vote the same day.

Because of its military career its family life is rather chaotic, especially for its close relations. It obliges his future son-in-law to leave the army so that this one marries his/her daughter junior, Sarah, this son-in-law, Jefferson Davis, will become the President of the confederated States of America.
