Zaïde
Zaïde is a unfinished opera, K. 344, written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1780.
The booklet is of Johann Andreas Schachtner, musician of the court of Salzburg, probably inspired by the Zaire of Voltaire. This work was made up in Salzburg, initially for the emperor Joseph II which wished to create a troop of German opera to Vienna. Mozart launched out in this composition without having of firm control, and it undoubtedly gave up work, when it knew that Joseph II did not hope to engage of other type-setters and that moreover, the Vienneses preferred merrier works. Zaïde was represented only in 1866 in an adaptation including/understanding an opening and final writings by Johann Anton Andrè.
Style
Zaïde cannot be described like a Opera buffa or a Opera seriated, it contains elements of the two forms. Zaïde is also remarkable by the fact that it is the only part of Mozart with the n° 4 of Thamos which contains melodramas: the text is not sung and alternate with the music.

Synopsis
Zaïde, Christian slave of the Soliman sultan, falls in love with Gomatz, also a slave, which causes the jealousy and the anger of the Sultan. They flee with the assistance of Allazim, but they are taken again. They all are condemned to death. But Allazim saved the life of the Sultan fifteen earlier. The Sultan recognizes it and the grâcie. Allazim intervenes in favor of his/her companions and the opera stops there without the final decision of the sultan being known.
