Z 5100

Description & Comments

This material was studied during the black years on the basis of Z 3700 to equip all the suburbs with Paris (the Northern suburbs were to be electrified in 1500 V)

The studies led to an appreciably different material. No the articulation (considered difficult for maintenance), emmarchement having to take account of the low, high quays or semi-tops. No total adhesion, considered as superfluous.

The circumstances did not make it possible this material to be ready for the startup of 1500 V on the South-eastern suburbs. A play of BB 1-80 adapted to oars " métro" PLM forming 18 elements of 4 cases couplables in peak period made the interim until spring 1954

This material also circulated on:

  • South-western suburbs of Paris (Stations of the Quay of Orsay and Austerlitz) for the service roads of 4th zone (Stamps and Dourdan) to replace Z 4100 of 1957 to 1967,
  • Western suburbs of Paris (Montparnasse station) to replace the oars with two stages State as from 1957

The cases are built out of stainless steel (Budd processes).
As for their elder Z 3700, there is unfortunately no braking électrique.

The composition M + R used of 1954 to 1967 authorized high performances of starting. From 1957, it will be gradually added a trailer with each element (M + R + R). For the reinforcement of the service road of Stamps and Dourdan in 1963,16 of them will still receive a trailer of reinforcement (M + R + R + R). The passably degraded performances were still sufficient for direct ways (Austerlitz-Juvisy-Brétigny).

In 1967, the South-western park yielded the place to Z 5300. The elements, brought back to M+ 2R have was distributed between Montparnasse and South-east, making it possible to supplement remaining compositions M+R. On South-east where circulated of the compositions to 12 cases, between 3 and 5 elements took episodically and in turn the composition M+ 3R to use 5 trailers of 1963 released during the transfer. From 1982, Z-5100 started to replace Z 4100 in province, with single assignment with Turn-St-Pierre (to 24 elements). To note detachments on Toulouse for the shuttles with the sorting of St-Jory, where they found composition M+R, fault of a rather long quay with St-Jory, and circulations on star of Bordeaux with weekly transfer since Tours

Vénissieux then accommodated 6 of them. One of them even carried out tests in Switzerland for Geneva it Plaine, but the CF did not like too much.

6 of them (5177 to 5182, then 5176 in the place of 5179) raised the last Z 1500 on Puteaux-Issy-Plain. See the article with regard to them.

The last races related to the shuttles Orleans them Aubrais until 1996

Particular railcars

  • Z 5177-5182 transformed into 1985 for operation on the Issy-Puteaux line electrified in 750 V by conductor rail, the “Standard” oars;
  • Z 5176 transformed in the same way to replace Z 5179 erased in 1989.
