Yzeron is a common French, located in the department of the the Rhone and the area the Rhone-Alps.

Geography

Yzeron is located within a very privileged framework of the mounts of the Lyonese, in the vicinity direct of the town of Lyon. Perched on a rock piton to 750 m of altitude to the crossroads of the valleys of Yzeron and Garon, Yzeron country of medium mountains alternates difficult slopes and small valleys with the soft lines. Meadows, orchards and wood follow one another in the slopes where open out, the summer, red raspberries, strawberries and other fruits…. Agricultural surface used represents a third of the territory, a half is wooded in coppice of oaks, chestnuts or plantations of coniferous tree. The multitude of the properties and the compartmental one contrasted give a very varied and pleasant landscape. The communal territory offers an natural environment of an exceptional beauty and variety, making it possible to satisfy all the desires of escape.

History

The root “is or yz” indicated the places then where the sources run (see Izard, Isere). “Mountain Wood” was another name given during the moyennageuse time and could return well from topicality if the gardeners of nature who are the farmers had not found of the new solutions to maintain the maintenance of the grounds.

The history of Yzeron is marked from time immemorial by its mountainous geography and the abundance of its sources. The Romans knew to collect water for the irrigation of the town of Lugdunum and, if it is not visible any more with the naked eye on the territory, the layout of the aqueduct is well indexed. With the intersection of two valleys (of the yzeron, and garon) the construction of the village was done because of its strategic position between the Lyonese and Drill it. The Lords of Fontaneys and the Archbishops of Saint Martin d' Ainay built castle, vault and church. Witness of this history, the hamlet of Chateauvieux, old stronghold where there remains a whole of old farms and a splendid Romance vault.

Since the XIX century end, Yzeron constitutes a tourist point of attraction for the townsmen who appreciate the beauty of his landscapes, the purity of the air and the variety of the walks. It is by the small train of Vaugneray and the carts that the holiday makers “went down” to the Hotel from the Beausite Park. Today the rooms of hosts and the lodgings replaced the 8 Hotels which the village in the Fifties counted
