Yves Potrel
Biography
Yves Potrel, born with Rheims in 1950, is violoncellist. He begins his musical studies with the academy from Rheims with Pierre Penassou, before obtaining the 1st price of Violoncelle and Chamber music to the Conservatoire Higher National of Paris in 1969. 3° price of the Contest " Maurice Marshal " (Paris) in 1973, then prize winner of the Contest Rostropovitch in 1977 with La Rochelle, Yves Potrel is successively named violoncello solo of the Philharmonic orchestra of the Countries of the Loire then of the Chamber orchestra of Rouen and of the Théâtre of Arts of 1973 to 1978. He becomes then Violoncelle supersolist of the Philharmonic orchestra of Montpellier of 1982 to 1991.
Impassioned chamber music, Yves Potrel is prize winner of the International Concours of Chamber music of Geneva (1978) and gains in 1981 the 3° price of the International Concours of Colmar (with Susan Campbell, Piano, and Bernard Mauppin, Violon). In 1983, it founds in Montpellier the " Quartet Jean-Marie Leclair" (oboe, flute, harpsichord and violoncello). It is also rewarded by the 1st price for the International Concours for Chamber music for Paris in 1985 and in 1986 he is prize winner of " Presence of Musique" Foundation Yehudi Menuhin. Yves Potrel is engaged by Emmanuel Krivine in 1991 to occupy the station of violoncello supersolist to the National orchestra of Lyon. In 1996, it is named professor of violoncello to the Conservatoire National of Area of Montpellier. Parallel to its teaching Yves POTREL leads his career of Chambriste (String quartet " CELLINI" , Together Instrumental " Johannes Brahms ").
Yves Potrel is invited regularly like violoncello soloist with the National orchestra of Capitole of Toulouse directed by Michel PLASSON then Tugan Sokhiev and takes an active part in the recordings, discs and rounds of the Orchestra. Yves Potrel is associated with the Ensemble TM+ (direction Laurent Cuniot), together in residence with Nanterre which as well approaches the Chamber music of Haydn as the " Exotic birds " of Messiaen or " Integral " of Varesse.
