Yves Congar

Yves Marie-Joseph Congar (1904 - 1995), O.p., was one of the largest catholic theologists of the 20th century, known for its work in Ecclésiologie and Oecuménisme.

Biography

Born the April 13rd 1904 with Sedan, (the Ardennes), it lived there the First World War, filling five books of notes and drawing. In 2001, this newspaper of war of a child was published.
Il took part in the revival of the catholic Théologie at the 20th century. With Marie-Dominique Chenu, it introduces the Histoire into the theological method. By its publications, the collection " Unam Sanctam" , created in 1937, It is at the origin of the modern Ecclésiologie.

For the first time in the history of catholic theology, it gives a theological value not only to the life of the Christians who are apart from the Catholic church, but also at their assemblies. Since the Council of the Vatican II, one speaks about Eglise S and church communities. He was condemned by the the Vatican in the middle of the years 1950 to have supported the movement of the Prêtres-ouvriers, which went bankrupt later. He is then named expert with the Concile of the Vatican II (1962 - 1965).

He holds to with it his newspaper, published in 2002. He writes much, and in particular on the crisis Intégriste (the Crisis in the Church and Mgr Lefebvre). He shows also his dissension with the government of the happy pope Pie IX.

As from the years 1980, he is hospitalized, nailed by a neurological Maladie. He was created cardinal by the pope Jean-Paul II in 1994, one year before his death, the June 22nd 1995 with the Military hospital of the Invalids, with Paris.
