Yvain

Also called Owein (in Welsh), Yvain is the son of Morgane and of the king Urien, he is the cousin of Calogrenant. He is the hero of a novel of Chrétien of Troyes, Yvain or the Knight with the lion (to consult Calogrenant).
In these adventures, it beats a black knight guard of a fountain. In another adventure, it saves a Lion attacked by a Serpent and becomes friendly with this lion. In the version of Thomas Malory, with Gauvain and Morholt, they meet three young ladies who take them along towards various adventures. This passage is taken again and transformed by Steinbeck which makes to its young lady her fencing master. In the novel, it Marie with Laudine which is the woman of the knight guard of the fountain and which he killed.
