Abû Al-Hajjâj “year-Nâsir” Yûsuf III Ben Yûsuf is the thirteenth emir nasride of Grenade. He was born in 1376. He is the son of Yûsuf II and he succeeds to him in 1408. He dies in 1417. His/her son Mohammed VIII Al-Mutamassik succeeds to him.
Biography
Abû Al-Hajjâj Yûsuf starts by trying to obtain the stop of the wars with the
Castille. As of the first year of reign it obtains the signature of an armistice. The alliance of Castille and the Aragon cancels this armistice. In 1408, the king of Aragon Ferdinand I {{er}} of Trastamare is regent of the young king of
Castille Jean II which does not have whereas three years. He starts to badger
Antequera on April 26th
1410. A keen fight has place between Castillans and Grenadians for four months. The Castilians employ artillery and machines of war, but the combat turns are set fire to by the forces nasrides on June 27th. September 25th the Castilians enter Antequera and deploy the standards of Santiago and San Isidoro de León. The chronicle of Jean II reports that on October 1st " Ferdinand ordered to make bless the mosque which was inside the castle and to give him the name of San Salvador". This victory is worth in Ferdinand Ier its nickname of
Ferdinand de Antequera . This victory Castilian is the first on the ground of
Al-Andalus since the battle of Tarifa in 1340. Ferdinand highlights the vulnerability of the kingdom nasride. The civil war inside the emirate of Grenade will make the situation even more precarious after the death of Abû Al-Hajjâj Yûsuf.
Abû Al-Hajjâj Yûsuf dies in 1417, his/her son Mohammed VIII Al-Mutamassik succeeds to him whereas it is only six years old.
Heritage
Abû Al-Hajjâj Yûsuf was poet, he made build the northern part of the palate of the Alhambra. This palate fell in ruin after the Reconquista, currently the site D this palate is occupied by gardens in terrace.
