Yusuf Al-Mustansir

Yûsuf Al-Mustansir (المستنصرباللهيوسفبنالناصر Al-mustanṣīr Bi-lake yūsuf Ben year-nāṣir) was born in 1197. It succeeded his father Muhammad year-Nâsir as Caliph Almohade in 1213 whereas it is only sixteen years old. He died in 1223.

History

His/her father, Muhammad year-Nâsir, having entrusted the Ifriqiya to Abû Muhammad Ben Abî Al-Hafs, Yûsuf Al-Mustansir left it to him to control. The the central Maghreb escaped its control and even in Morocco the situation worsened under the push of the Mérinides. The Sheik S of Marrakech wanted to return to a practice which had never been used to subject the choice of a new caliph to a nomination. That created the disorders which will mark the end of the dynasty.

Its three viziers:

  • Abû Its `îd Ben Jâm `I (1214-1214) (already vizier of Muhammad year-Nâsir)
  • Abû Yahyâ Al-Hizrajîy (1214-1214) (أبويحيىالهزرجي abū yaḥyā Al-hizrajīy)
  • Abû `Ali Ben Achrafîy (1214-1214) (أبوعليبنأشرفي abū `alīy Ben ašrafīy)
  • Abû Its `îd Ben Jâm `I (1214-1223) (third vizirat)
