Yuanshou

The era Yuanshou , or Yuan-cheou (122 - 117 av. J. - C.) (Chinese traditional and simplified: zh-Hant 元狩; Pinyin: Yuánshòu ; litt. The “first winter hunting”) is the fourth Chinese era of the emperor Wudi of the Dynastie Han.

Just like the first eras of the reign of Wudi, the Yuanguang era was proclaimed only retroactively when Wudi instituted the system of era.

The Yuanshou era was proclaimed in reference to the first winter hunting organized by the Wudi emperor in 122 av. J. - C., at the time which a qilin unicorne with five legs would have been captured.

The well-read man Zhao Yi in his work Nian er shi zha yi regarded the Yuanshou era as the first of the Chinese eras.
