Yuanguang (134-129 av. J. - C.)

The era Yuanguang , or Yuan-kouang (135 - 129 av. J. - C.) (Chinese traditional and simplified: zh-Hant 元光; Pinyin: Yuánguāng ; litt. “Original Light”) is the second Chinese era of the emperor Wudi of the Dynastie Han.

Just like the first eras of the reign of Wudi, the Yuanguang era was proclaimed only retroactively when Wudi instituted the system of era.

According to historical annals, the name of this era, “original light”, would come owing to the fact that a comet appeared in 135 av. J. - C., sufficiently important event judged to justify the proclamation of a new era. Thus, according to the ten seventh chapter of the Zizhi Tongjian , in the eighth month of the sixth year of Jianyuan “appeared a comet in the east which crossed the sky in all its length. ”
