Yponomeutidae

The Yponomeutidés (or Yponomeutidae ) form a family Lépidoptère S yponomeutoidea. Into Europe, this family is divided into four subfamily S:

Tisseuses caterpillars

Yponomeuta evonymella ( Bird-cherry Ermine for English and häggspinnmal for Swedish; " hägg" being the Swedish name of “cherry of the birds”, spin meaning to weave and not moth) is an insect defoliator able to produce spectacular weavings, as photographs taken illustrate it the summer 2005 in Flogsta/Hamberg (district of Uppsala, to approximately 60 km in the north of Stockholm in Sweden). These caterpillars are normally present every year, but know spectacular phases of pullulation, approximately every 5 years. They gather per thousands and can then weave several square meters of fabric, going until entirely coating or draping the trees, even objects such as bicycles or urban furniture.

The caterpillars are not eaten by the birds, and once they transformed into butterflies, the trees make one second growth of sheets, seeming well to even recover of their defoliation in the season.
