The Youth Christian coed , more commonly called JEC , is an association of young Christians of the student world.
Then, inspired by the Christian working Youth, a federation JEC is created with Lille, in May 1929.
As of 1935, the JEC, is opposed to the Nazism. Later, in the Years 1960, whereas it is very influential within UNEF, the JEC gives an opinion against the war in Algeria. This politization and May 68, will give places to various “crises” of the JEC, i.e. with conflicts between its members and the catholic hierarchy. Between 1955 and 1969, several branches develop with the dynamic clean ones: college S (JEC), Preparatory classes at the universities (JEC-prépas), universities (JEC-U). In the Years 1970, the movement becomes again rather high-school pupil. Today the university branch is again important.
After implybeing strongly implied in the Resistance, the JEC continued to play considerable role until in the Années 1960 in the training of French persons in charge. One thus counts among the former the many jecists resistant ones as well as great figures of the political world, trade-union media, university or associative, among which: Jacques Delors, Pascal Lamy, Joseph Fontanet, Thick Gilbert, Pierre Alviset, Rene Rémond, Andre de Péretti, Patrick Viveret, Pierre Rosanvallon, Antoine Spire, Jean-Pierre Sueur, Georges Montaron, Christophe Hondelatte, Claude-François Julien, Roger-Henri Guerrand, Renaud Sainsaulieu, Jean-Marie Vincent, Jean-Yves Le Drian, Jacques Bugnicourt, etc
