Biography
After having carried out its first weapons in the second division within FC Grenoble then RC Strasbourg, it is with the ACE Monaco that Youri Djorkaeff appears. Very long training sessions to the frank blow will be worth later to him the nickname of The Snake , for the trajectories " reptiliennes" that its shootings take. Offensive player, particularly realistic in front of the goal, his positioning tactical on the ground remains vague. Sometimes excentré offensive medium, sometimes true attacker, Youri Djorkaeff is a headache for its trainer. But this fine technician who does not like anything as long as to evolve/move between the lines is especially a poison for unfavourable defenses, where its direction of the dribble makes wonder. It is during season 1993-1994 that Youri Djorkaeff explodes truly. Shining in championship (of which it finishes better striker with 21 achievements), shining in League of the Champions, it is also called in team of France by Gerard Houllier and knows his first selection with the autumn against Israel (demolished 2-3). The arrival during the winter of Aimé Jacquet with the head of Blue does not stop the progression of the player Monegasque. Quite to the contrary, Djorkaeff will be affirmed like the amulet of Jacquet, by multiplying the decisive goals under the tricolor shirt. In a formation whose offensive deficiencies will be shown a long time finger, the realism and the direction of the goal of Djorkaeff will largely compensate for its defects (individualism and defensive lack of folds).
Passed with the Paris Saint-Germain in 1995, Djorkaeff is affirmed more than ever like one of the best players of the championship, and it is one of the principal craftsmen of the beautiful European countryside of the Parisian club (victorious of the Cut of the Cuts this year). Output which it confirms with the team of France, where the duet which it constitutes with Zinedine Zidane illuminates the play of the Blue ones regularly. The first great appointment of this generation is balanced however by a semi-failure at the time of the Euro 1996 in England. Eliminated in semi-final, the Blue ones pain to convince, and the duet Zidane-Djorkaeff does not show with the height sucitées waitings.
With leaving the Euro, while the Arrêt Bosman upsets the landscape of football, Djorkaeff collapses under the proposals of the most prestigious foreign clubs. It finally chooses to join the Inter Milan. In the famous championship most demanding of the world, within a manpower constellated stars, Youri however imposes itself like a player impossible to circumvent. Impossible to circumvent, it is it also with the team of France even if with the approach of the World cup 1998, its complementarity on the ground with Zidane appears less and less obvious and starts to feed the debates. That does not prevent Djorkaeff from being one of the principal craftsmen of the championship of the world of the Blue ones. Confirmed Victoire two years later during the Euro 2000, even if the influence of Djorkaeff is decreasing within the team of France, where he is not any more one indisputable holder.
More really desired with Inter Milan in spite of three good seasons, Djorkaeff joined the rows of Kaiserslautern meanwhile, the champion of Germany in title. After beginnings successful within the German club, Djorkaeff will be more and more opposed by the wounds, and finally will lose the confidence of its trainer. It is only of accuracy that he manages to hang the coach of the World cup 2002 after having signed during the winter in the English club of Bolton to find time of play. But, established driving of play in the absence of Zinedine Zidane wounded, he will not manage to avoid the shipwreck with the team of France. He announces his international retreat at the conclusion of the tournament.
In Bolton, which is not most crested of the clubs of First League, Djorkaeff is far from its last exploits. But even sometimes if the physique pains to follow, Youri continues to make speak its experiment and its direction about the goal during more than two seasons. After a short hook by Blackburn, it joined in 2005 the Major League Soccer and the MetroStars of New York where it was elected better player of the club for his first season.
It makes publish an autobiography, Snake , with the Grasset editions, in 2006.
It puts an end to its career on October 29th, 2006 after the elimination of the Red Bull New York in semi-final of the conference Is championship of the United States. Wounded in the tendon of Achilles, it did not take part in this match. Its last official match thus goes back to October 21st, 2006.
In April 2007, it assumes the chairmanship of the club of the UGA Décines (Armenian General union), small club of regional division of Honor of the Lyons suburbs, where it had begun child. His/her Jean father becomes the general manager about it, while his/her two brothers Denis and Micha are respectively vice-president and player of the team first. The budget should be quickly doubled, with for objective reaching CFA 2 in the five years.
In a register very other, it tests in 2000 with the song with the title House " To live in your Lumière" , written and composed by Paul Tordjmann. This known title a success extremely mitigated in France, and Youri did not leave disc again thereafter.
