Younous Qanouni
Younous Qanouni ( يونسقانوني , also written Qanooni and Qanuni ) (born in 1957) is an Afghan politician. Originating in the valley of the Panjshir, in the north of the Afghanistan and of ascent tadjike, Qanouni is the chief of the party Afghanistan E Naween (new Afghanistan) and President of the room of the Representatives (the Lower House of the Parliament).
Course before its election
After the Soviet intervention in Afghanistan (1979), Qanouni joined the rows of the moujahiddhins based in the valley of Panjshir and directed by Ahmad Shah Massoud. Protected from Massoud, it was implied in the creation of the Alliance of North and was Minister of Interior Department under the government of Burhanuddin Rabbani. After assassinating of Massoud in 2001, it constituted, in fact, with Mohammed Fahim and Dr. Abdullah, the triumvirate with the head of the alliance of North.
Combined with the the United States at the time of their intervention of 2001, it remained however reticent towards the government Pakistan board. In 2001, he was the negotiator as a chief of the delegation of the Alliance of North to the conference of Bonn.
Minister for Education during a first transition government of Hamid Karzai, it stood as a presidential candidate at the time of the election of 2004.
Current mandate
After its second place at the time of the presidential election, he was elected at the Parliament and president was named by it.
