Young musicians of the world
Jeunes musicians of the world is an organization of benevolence Québécois which has the role of developing free music schools, with an aim of contributing to the total blooming of the young people of popular environments. The foundation works to preserve the cultural heritage, folk and traditional musics of the world.
Description
Founded in Quebec in June 2002, Jeunes musicians of the world is a Québécois non-profit making company (organization of benevolence since 2004) coming to traditional assistance with the children and teenagers by the means of music schools where teaching is free. The action of the founders started in October 2001 with Dharwad in India, before even the official foundation of the organization. Currently working in Quebec and in India, the organization accommodates more than 200 young people in its 3 schools.Several Québécois artists endorse the project or are spokesperson of the organization; among those one counts Paul Piché, Ariane Moffatt, Pierre Lapointe, Jim Corcoran, Yann Perreau, Marc Déry, Loco Locass, Antoine Gratton and several others.
Mission
Jeunes musicians of the world was set up with the concern of coming to assistance of youth and of preserving the musics of the world. This organization works with the foundation and the traditional administration of music schools in various countries of the world. These schools all, free, aim at making it possible young people to be integrated in a sphere of activity which stimulates them and confidence gets to them and estimates. They offer to the young people the occasion to be invested in an activity acting like a vector of personal development.The organization aspires to produce accomplished musicians and wants to thus contribute to make known and to develop the musical traditions of the countries where such projects are established. As this direction, the organization acts in favor of the conservation and the radiation of a world musical inheritance.
Music schools
Kalkeri Sangeet Vidyalaya
In 2002, the “Young Musicians of the World” took part in the construction of their first music school with Kalkeri with the India S. Située in a peaceful valley close to the town of Dharwad at the Karnataka, Kalkeri Sangeet Vidyalaya is an original project which proves reliable already. In little time, several of its pupils appear very talented and of the concrete results were reached.This school nourishes, cabin, and equips about fifty children and teenagers resulting from rural environments and urban. These young people receive a musical and academic teaching and profit from a framing rigorous and favourable with the study. On this farm of five bitter, with the variation of the village of Kalkeri, the pupils are accommodated in simple buildings built out of traditional materials (bamboo, thatch, wood, clay, tiles). The pupils enjoy peace necessary for the musical practice and the professional work.
The pupils of the school, old between six and eighteen years, come from the various communities present in the area, composing a true cultural mosaic; Maharatha S, Gowlie S, Lingayat S, Lambani S, Kannadiga S, Bengali S and Musulman S are some examples. Thus the Kannad, the Maharathi, the Lambani, the Bengali , the Hindi , the Ourdu, the French and the English are the spoken languages in Kalkeri Sangeet Vidyalaya.
Each pupil is assigned with a professor auprès of which he studies the song, the Sitar, the Harmonium and the Tabla at a rate of three hours per day, six days per week. By daily impregnating music of his mentor, the young person will become gradually an accepted member of the musical line of this last. In India, this membership represents the key giving access in the middle of the professional musicians. In complement of the classes, two periods of practice of approximately an hour are envisaged with the daily schedule.
Hochelage-Maisonneuve, Montreal
October 11th, 2005, the school of the Young musicians of the world of Montreal opened officially its doors, in order to offer free workshops of song, dance, tale and percussions with the underprivileged children of the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district. Thus, thirty young people from 6 to 13 years take part, twice by week, with courses offered by specialists in their discipline.The pupils of the School of Young musicians of the world, follow a joint base of song, dance, auditive formation through workshops. The children who are at their second year of training receive one hour of course of instrument (flute, guitar, accordion) in small group. Divided into various groups of age, the young people take part free in the workshops. The time of teaching is divided into two 45 minutes periods, separated by a pause collation, and ends in a gathering. Teaching is centered primarily on the song, the dance and the instrumentation. The oral transmission, characteristic of the folklore, is privileged like mode of training. The frequentation of accomplished artists wakes up in the young people a healthy curiosity towards their culture. The latter are familiarized then with several facets of the Québécois traditional music.
Other achievements
In 2006, as at each year, from tens of voluntary of various countries come to lend strong hand. Among those, one can count nine trainees of the Laval University in Quebec and also the musicians Québécois Jorane and Éloi Painchaud. The latter levelled the young people by producing with them a clip “house” of the song of Antoine Gratton, Carol-a-gogo. Progress of the young people is recognized more and more in the area and of many parents wish to entrust their small to the school Kalkeri Sangeet Vidyalaya .Young Musicians of the World in collaboration with Gadjo Dilo Films, carried out documentary a the voices of Kalkeri , in nomination for the best documentary hope at the time of the edition of the Appointments of the Québécois cinema, testifies to the social step of Young musicians of the world which is dedicated to the development of an identity cultural pedagogy and sees with its transmission near the Indian communities by supporting children of popular quarters of the south of India.
In November 2006, a concert was organized for the fifth birthday of Young Musicians of the World, and allowed ammasser funds which will allow more than 200 young people of Quebec and India to continue their personal and musical step. Invited artists liberally contributed to this evening: Paul Piché, Sizeable the, Loco Locass, Yves Lambert, Vincent Vallières, Florence K, Jonathan Painchaud, Antoine Gratton, Éloi Painchaud, Monica Freire, Taima, Divided into volumes Jensen, Papillon, Dj Kobal, Afrodizz, Paule-Andree Cassidy, Oliver Jones and the Cowboys Fringants.
