The young firemen (JSP) , sometimes called juniors firemen , are associations made up with an aim of training young people in the fields of the Secourisme and the firefighting. Those are to a certain extent a means to recruit voluntary firemen, while making discover the trade with the young people. Those are allowed at a variable age between 10 and 13 years, and remain JSP until generally 16 ‑ 18 years.
In France
The formation lasts from 3 to 6 years maximum and cuts out in 3 modules: Initiation, Certificate and Patent. After the patent that the JSP pass after 15 years, they reach a complementary module where they will pass the Certificat of formation to the activities of first aid in team (soon famous First aid Equips 1 and 2 with them).
The policy of integration of the minor firemen (of more than 16 years) as voluntary fireman is problematic and source of polemics. Certain young people firemen are very motivated and impatient to really act, but that poses the problem of the maturity and the civil responsibility as well as penal for the JSP and its framing.
Since February 2002 (law 2002-276 of February 27th, 2002, JORF February 28th, 2002), a JSP having obtained its patent of junior before his 18 years can enter as a trainee. It supplements its formation then and can carry out certain operations under the monitoring of a tutor, in addition to the normal manpower of the committed machine. In practice, little body takes trainees, because of the difficulties that imposes:
- it is necessary “to filter” the interventions so that the JSP is not exposed too much to the risks, physics like psychological;
- few firemen are ready to take the responsability for tutor;
- if the tutor must carry part of his attention on the JSP, it relates from there necessarily less to the intervention in itself.
Since March 2005, the Brigade of sappers firemen of Paris, is equipped with a section of Young sappers firemen. This formation lasts two years. It is opened to the young people Franciliens (75, 92,93,94) being 11 years minimum and 16 years old maximum. A good sporting level is necessary. The patent of JSP sanctions this formation. With the program of the instruction one finds sport, operations sets fire to, of the first aid, the civics and reserve training.
