Youakim Moubarac
Youakim Moubarac (1924 – 1995) is a Libanais thinker. It was a Islamologue, an Arabist and a disciple of the Orientaliste Louis Massignon (1883 – 1962). Priest Maronite, Moubarac dedicated his major life and his work to the Dialog inter-monk, with the Palestinian and Lebanese causes, the unit of the Eglise and the heritage antiochien of the Eglise Maronite.
Biography
Youakim Moubarac was born on July 20th, 1924 with Kfarsghab, Lebanon in a family Maronite of sacerdotal long tradition. His/her father, Antoun, and his/her grandfather, Youssef, were both priests Maronite S being used their community in one of the most spiritual places of the Eastern Christianisme for the the Middle East, the valley of the Qadisha.
First years
After studies of theology to the Seminar Maronite of Ghazir and with, Beirut, Lebanon, the Youakim young person is sent by his superiors in October 1945 in France. Once its studies finished with the Seminar of Saint-Sulpice to Paris, it is ordered priest on June 29th, 1947 with the Lebanon. In 1948, it is authorized by the Patriarcat Maronite to continue his studies with the catholic Institut of Paris. In this same year, it is named with the service of the Paroisse of Saint-Severin in the Latin Quarter where it will remain during 18 years.
Career
In 1951, it presents its first thesis of doctorate Abraham in Coran and returns as researcher to the National center of the scientific research, the public agency of the most prestigious research in France.From 1950 to 1962, Moubarac ensures the secretariat of Louis Massignon. In 1959, it begins its academic career, by teaching the Classical Arabic with the catholic Institut. Until its death, he will teach in several universities: the catholic University of Leuwen, Belgium, the University Paris IV - Paris-Sorbonne and others.
It takes part between 1962 and 1965 in the ecumenical IIe council of the Vatican within the delegation Maronite. After 1965, it devoted to its work of promotion of the Dialog inter-monk, defense of the Palestinian and especially Lebanese causes as from 1975.
As from 1985, Youakim Moubarac works to redécouvrir the roots Syriaque S of the Église Maronite. From 1987 to 1992, it settles with the Lebanon and deals with the preparation of Synode Maronite.
For this period and in spite of an intesive work for the preparation of synod and much of spiritual and political missions, Moubarac begins two important projects:
- In 1989, it begins the restoration of the monastery of Notre-Dame of Qannoubine, a historical monastery in the valley of the Qadisha which was during centuries the seat of the Patriarchate Maronite (Ca 15th at the 18th century).
- In 1992, it founds with friends, the Lebanese Co-operative for the development, an initiative of microphone-credit, whose objectives are to encourage the families moved during the Lebanese Civil war (1975-1990) to reinstall themselves in their area of origin and to prevent the emigration outside Lebanon.
In 1991, the decision of the pope Jean-Paul II to convene a Synode with Rome for all the Catholic churches of Lebanon cancels its project of synod Maronite.
In 1992, it is reinstalled with Paris where it resumes its academic work.
Died
The Youakim father died on May 24th, 1995 with Montpellier. He rests with the cemetery of the abbey of Jouarre.
